A Creative Hub in the Fjords

Nestled between Norwegian mountains and fjords, Volda University College (HVO) is known for its unique student atmosphere and strong focus on media. Every year, creative students from across Norway and beyond come to Volda to explore their talents, challenge themselves, and learn from lecturers with international experience.

Learning by Doing

At VUC, students are not only trained in classrooms and studios, but also in real workplaces. Through praksis (internships), they gain valuable professional experience, meet industry contacts, and learn how to apply their knowledge in practice. For students in the Master in Media Practices (MMP) program, internships are a central part of the curriculum—a stepping stone from studies to professional life.

Oclin: A Case in Point

One example is Oclin, a creative film production company founded in Volda in 2016. With roots in the local community and a growing presence in Oslo, Oclin has become a valuable partner for HVO students. Each semester, the company welcomes interns and young freelancers, offering them meaningful tasks and space to contribute.

Oclin’s close ties to VUC make it a natural partner, and many students describe their internships there as both inspiring and rewarding.

“I’ve felt more like a team member than an intern.
The tasks I’ve been given have been meaningful and relevant — not just typical intern work,”

– Sindre Kleivi Sjåvåg, spring 2025 intern.

A Bridge to the Industry

For MMP students, internships like the one at Oclin are not only about professional skills,
but also about discovering their own strengths, building networks, and gaining confidence
for the future. Whether in Volda, Oslo, or elsewhere in Norway, internships are a key way
HVO students turn their education into careers
