Norwegian language and civilization for international students (NIS)
The NIS course is an intensive 1-year programme that starts at beginners level (A1) and ends at advanced level (B2). After successful completion of the course, students meet the Norwegian language requirement for admission to higher education in Norway.

Course details
The NIS course is a 1-year, 60 ECTS credits, study programme at undergraduate level. It is split in two parts of 30 ECTS credits: NIS101 (autumn semester) and NIS102 (spring semester). To meet the Norwegian language requirement for admission to higher education in Norway, students must complete and pass both parts (it is not enough only to complete NIS102).
Why choose the NIS course?
The NIS course is a great way of quickly improving your Norwegian language skills and to study the language in an academic setting. With daily class activities and a small class size, the NIS students progress quickly from a beginner's level to a more advanced level. Also, NIS is not only a language course, but also provides valuable insight into Norwegian history, culture, society and academic life.
Costs and financial aid
Non-EU/EEA citizens may have to pay tuition fees for the NIS course unless they meet one of the listed reasons to be exempt.
Note that the Norwegian language course (NIS) normally does not qualify students for grants/loans from Lånekassen (the Norwegian State Loan Foundation).
