Required prerequisite knowledge

The course is obligatory for students in Bachelor in Media Production (Bachelor i medieproduksjon), after completing their first year of study.

Students from Bachelor in Journalism, television and radio journalism and Bachelor in Journalism, print and online journalism can attend the course after passing JOU100, JOU101, JOU102 and MEV121.

Other students and exchange students may apply based on the following prerequisites:

  1. 30 ECTS of media production courses or equivalent experience.
  2. Study participation requires good knowledge of the English language.
  3. Motivational letter describing your background and interest in the course, with supporting documentation.

Upon fulfillment of prerequisites, admission may be granted in consideration of the maximum amount of students accepted on the course.

Course content

The course provides students with the skills and knowledge required to develop media concepts. Students will be able to develop an idea from brainstorm to pitch. They will be able to utilise core skills of idea development, scriptwriting and storytelling in multiple formats, which they will apply through responding to creative briefs and developing pitches. The students will develop a solid understanding of storytelling and skills in concept development and scriptwriting.

  • scriptwriting for multiple genres
  • applying academic knowledge to practical and theoretical problems and explaining his/her creative choices

The student 

  • can develop ideas and concepts into scripts for different types of media productions
  • can present and communicate project ideas verbally and in writing
Working and learning activities

The course has compulsory attendance by the 80/20 rule and will consist of different workshops combined with lectures and practical work, in groups or individually. (See: Regulations governing studies and examinations are to be found at Volda University College, §4.6 on attendance/participation in teaching.)
Students will work with different obligatory work requirements throughout the semester, details of which will be stated in the semester plan.
Parts of the program can be implemented as e-learning modules and screen-based teaching and guidance.
The course will be taught in English if there are exchange students participating. Written work requirements may be written in Norwegian or English.

 

Assessment requirements

The student must have satisfactory attendance, and complete all work requirements in the course. The course has compulsory attendance by the 80/20 rule.
