Marit er 1.amanunesis i teater, med utdanning fra NTNU i Norge, University of Minnesota, USA og Queensland University of Technology, Australia. Hun har utviklet og forsket på en teatermetode kalt ekkoteater, og hennes praksisbaserte PhD inneholder kontekstuelle og teori studier samt feltarbeid i 2. og 5. klasse. Studien fant at arbeid med ekkoteater støtter utviklingen av performativ og narrative kompetanse hos elevene. Effektiviteten av metoden er avhengig av lærerens kunstneriske ferdigheter, evne til å engasjere, og en helhetlig og reflekterende holdning til studentene. Marit arbeidet 20 år i dramaseksjonen, hvorav 10 års som seksjonsleder.
Marit arbeider nå som senterleder for Seanse – senter for kunstproduksjon, et senter som arbeider for å styrke kvalitet i kunst for og med barn og unge, og andre. Fra 2004-2017 har Seanse hatt til sammen 500 kunstnere på kunstneropphold, arrangert 30 konferanser, kunstverksted og seminar, og støttet og veiledet cirka 240 kunstproduksjoner. Siden 2011 har Marit ledet Seanses arbeid med å utvikle ‘Teaching Artist’ praksis i Norge på et nasjonalt plan. Dette har ført til at Seanse har vært med å utvikle og veilede kunstprogrammer i mange utdannings- og samfunnsinstitusjoner i Norge. Marit har videre utviklet Kunstnerlærer/Teaching Artist som et studiepoenggivende emne, og det er hittil tilbudt tre ganger med henne som ansvarlig lærer.
Foruten å være mentor for kunstproduksjon, har Marit erfaring som teaterinstruktør, historieforteller, høgskolelektor og konferanseleder. Hun er invitert til å dele, undervise og veilede internasjonalt. Hennes fokus som forsker og regissør av Seanse dreier seg om kunst i utdanning, utdanning av kunstnerlærere, kunstprogrammer i utdannings- og sosiale institusjoner, teaterpraksis og internasjonale relasjoner. Marit is Associate Professor in Theatre, with education from NTNU in Norway, the University of Minnesota, USA, and Queensland University of Technology, Australia. She has invented and researched a theatre method called echo theatre, and her practice-led PhD included contextual and theory studies as well as fieldwork project with students in 2nd and 5th grade. The study found that work with Echo Theatre support the development of performative and narrative competencies in students. The effectiveness of the method is dependent on the teaching artist’s artistic knowledge, ability to engage and a holistic and reflective attitude towards the students.Marit has worked 20 year in the Drama Department, and 10 of these as the director.
Marit is now working as the director of Seanse Art Center, based in Volda, Norway, a center supporting quality in arts for and with children and youth, and others. From 2004-2017, Seanse have altogether hosted more than 500 artists in residence, 30 conferences, workshops and seminars, and supported and mentored over about 250 art productions. Since 2011, Marit has directed Seanse Art Center's work in bringing Teaching Artist practices to Norway, as a national initiative. This has led to Seanse facilitating and mentoring art programs in many education and community institutions in Norway. She has furthermore developed a Teaching Artist coursework giving university credits, so far being offered three times with her as the responsible teacher.
Besides being a mentor of art production, Marit has experience as a theatre director, storyteller, university lecturer and conference leader. She is invited to share, teach and mentor on an international basis. Her focus as a researcher and director of Seanse revolves around arts in education, teaching artistry, art programs in educational and social institutions, theatre practice, and international relations.
