Exam registration
Active students sign up for ordinary and re-sit exams in Studentweb as part of registering for the term. Deadlines are listed in Important deadlines.
Signing up for ordinary exams
Registration for ordinary exams takes place in conjunction with the approval of the study plan/semester registration in Studentweb, with deadlines of September 1st in the autumn term and February 1st in the spring term.
The student is responsible for checking Studentweb to ensure that the examination registration is correct. The examination date will be announced in Studentweb and in the exam schedule on hivolda.no when it is set.
Signing up for re-sit exams
Students that are unable to sign up for re-sit exams in Studentweb, can sign up by submitting the form found here. Note that the form allows students to sign up to more than one exam at a time. The deadlines are listed in Important deadlines.
Withdrawing from exams
Withdrawing before the deadline
Students may withdraw from exams, term papers and theses 14 days before the exam starts.
Students that withdraw before the deadline, do not use one of their attempts for the exams. Please note that withdrawing does not make students eligible for re-sit exams.
Withdrawing after the deadline
Withdrawing after the deadline counts as attempting the exam. Withdrawing after the deadline is registered as did not attend/did not submit, and does not make students eligible for re-sit exams.
Students that deliver a withdrawal form to exam invigilators during in-person exams, or uses the “submit blank” button during the exam, this counts as an attempt, but students are eligible for re-sit exams.
Read more about what makes students eligible for re-sit exams here.
Illness during the examination period
If you become ill during an exam and must withdraw, you should not submit your exam answer. A submitted exam answer will be sent for grading, and you will not be able to apply for excused absence.
If you become ill during a written school exam, notify the invigilator that you wish to withdraw from the examination.
If you become ill during a home examination, you can choose not to submit your exam answer.
In both cases, you may apply for excused abscence by submitting a doctor’s certificate or other valid documentation to the exam team. Send your documentation for excused absence from your exam by using a form, here. If you are unable to submit documentation for excused absence by the first working day after the exam, you must contact the exam team to inform them of this and when you expect to have the documentation ready.
When you have excused absence, you do not use an exam attempt, and you are eligible for a re-sit exam the following term.
Illness or other compelling reasons for absence
If you are ill or have another valid reason for not taking an exam, you may apply for excused abscence by submitting a doctor’s certificate or other valid documentation to the exam team.
Examples of situations that may grant excused absence include:
- Illness (or illness of someone you have caregiving responsibilities for)
- Childbirth
- Death in immediate family
Clashes with examinations and/or compulsory activities outside of your regular study programs, work, holidays and travel, or similar reasons, do not provide valid grounds for absence.
