Norwegian course for refugees

Due to the war in Ukraine, Volda University College (VUC) has been awarded extra funding from the Ministry of Education to offer admission to ten additional applicants. These spots are reserved for refugees.

VUC aims to provide a general offer for refugees who either have academic backgrounds from their home countries, or who would like to start higher education in Norway. Refugees of all nationalities who have registered for collective protection or received individual asylum in Norway may apply for admission.

The most relevant study offer at VUC is the 1-year Norwegian language course - Norwegian language and civilization for international students (NIS).

About the Norwegian course (NIS)

NIS is an intensive 1-year course (60 ECTS credits) that runs from August 2022 to June 2023. The course is aimed at beginners with no prior knowledge of, or education in, the Norwegian language. By the completion of the course, students are at advanced level (B2) and fulfill the standard Norwegian language requirements for Norwegian-taught study programmes at VUC and in the national university admissions services (Samordna opptak).

Admission for refugees

Due to the extraordinary situation and the nature of this extra admission, VUC, based on an individual review of each application, may offer some exemptions to the normal admission requirements. Note that applicants must document sufficient English language skills. VUC will arrange an English language test for refugees who cannot document their English language skills through recognized tests and diplomas. This test is planned for August 8 (to be confirmed). Application period and deadline

The extra admission opens for applications July 25, 2022. Relevant candidates for this extra admission round for refugees can submit an application within the deadline August 1st, 2022.

We have developed an online form that refugees can submit to show their interest for the Norwegian language course at VUC. We will provide more details on the application process to candidates completing this form. See the online form: https://nettskjema.no/a/273413
