Sports and Nature Guide

Sports and nature guide

Our unique location between dramatic fjords and rugged mountains on the North-Western coast of Norway, makes Volda the perfect place to study sports and nature.

VUC is well-known for studies within the areas of sports and nature, and has a strong academic environment in this field. Norwegians’ close links to nature are reflected in our courses, many of which are interdisciplinary, focusing on nature experiences in combination with physical education or media production. Starting with the academic year 2021/2022 a new programme within Nature Guiding opened its doors to the international students.

Nature Guiding

The Sunnmøre region is one of the most diverse in Norway. In our courses we take advantage of our unique location with fieldtrips, guided tours in the mountains, along the fjords and in coastal environments. The new Nature Guide programme allows students to gain insights into what guiding and outdoor leadership involves in practice, setting the path towards a profession with a high focus on sustainable travel and tourism.

Outdoor classroom

Whether you are working on a film in the Sunnmøre Alps, learning how to ski, or learning about coastal outdoor life at the VUC base on the island of Yksnøya, experienced teachers will share their knowledge with you. We also take advantage of our indoor facilities, where students can become familiar with Norwegian physical education and sports. The courses consist of different teaching methods including practical exercises, lectures, work in groups, personal tutoring and instructions, as well as individual work.

– As an exchange student in sports and physical education, I studied in Norwegian. This gave me the chance to get in touch with local students. I am originally from Finland, but I feel part of the exchange students group, as Norway is an experience for all of us. Sunnmøre offers incredible nature, combined with highly qualified studies.
