ITS Volda travel and costs

ITS Volda has no conference fee, and most meals will be provided free of charge. Student participants also get accommodation for free during the conference.

Note that all international participants will have to arrange and pay for their own travel to/from Volda.

Arrival:
The conference programme formally begins Tuesday April 21, 2020. However, we will arrange a hike, tour of Volda and social events from the afternoon of Monday and hope as many as possible will be able to arrive in the daytime Monday April 20th.

Departure:
The conference programme ends Wednesday April 23 in the evening. All participants must plan to depart Thursday April 23. Participants who wish to stay on in Norway after the conference, must arrange and pay for this themselves.

How to get here:
There are two airports in reasonable distance from Volda. The local Orsta/Volda Hovden airport is only 10 minutes drive from the campus and the ITS Volda crew will provide pick-up and departure service to/from there. The local airport is operated by the ariline Wideroe which has 5-6 daily flights to/from Oslo and 2 daily flights to/from Bergen. Since capacity is limited, early booking is a good idea. If you connect flights in Oslo or Bergen, make sure to include enough time for the domestic transfer. We strongly recommend that you purchase a single ticket all the way through to Orsta/Volda as delays and cancellations may occur.

The Alesund Vigra Airport (AES) is medium-sized and several airlines (KLM, Norwegian, SAS) provide flights here. Since there are more airlines and bigger planes, prices tend to be cheaper. However, you will have to travel by bus from Alesund Airport to Volda, which takes app. 3 hours and costs ca. 200 NOK one way for students (250 NOK for non-students).
