Background

Cand. Philol. in History at the University of Oslo, 2004. Title of thesis: «Direktoratet for skolehjemmene : statlig omsorg for tilpasningsvanskelige barn 1941-1951» (The Directorate for School Homes: State Care for Children with Adjustment Difficulties 1941–1951).

In 2004, I contributed to the committee that authored NOU2004: 23 Barnevern og spesialskoler under lupen (Child Welfare and Special Schools under Scrutiny). From 2005 to 2008, I worked as a research assistant and administrative support at the Forum for University History, University of Oslo. From 2009, I was employed as a PhD fellow in educational history at the Department of Education, University of Oslo. I have also contributed to a NOKUT report (2005), participated in research networks, and published articles both nationally and internationally.

Teaching

I teach social studies and history in the primary teacher education program at HVO. In addition, I am course coordinator for subjects in grunskolelærerutdanningen 5–10 and in the online courses Skuleretta samfunnsfag 1 og 2. My teaching mainly focuses on international topics with an emphasis on history and democracy. Furthermore, I am responsible for teaching academic writing and supervising the process of writing assignments in social studies.

Ongoing

PhD dissertation on UNESCO and the development of education for international understanding during the period 1946–1954. The aim of the study is, among other things, to highlight the role of education in the reconstruction of Europe after World War II, and thereby the use of education as an arena for creating a world community founded on peace and human rights, seen through UNESCO’s Education for International Understanding.
