Foreign reporting in India

The VUC Faculty of Media has since the 1990s offered a semester stay in India for journalism students who want to practice foreign reporting. Student feedback on the course has been very positive. The Journalism Department has more than two decades of experience in taking students to India, which also means that we can offer crucial and detailed preparations before departure and provide important contacts for the period abroad. These factors enable students to go deeper than the typical tourist facade and experience the traditional and real India.

Three phases of the course

The first three weeks of the course, there will be lectures in Volda about the cultur, politics and history of India, in addition to topics related to journalism. Approximately 1. October, the students travel to India with the course leader, first to Delhi and then on to Bangalore. The first two weeks of the stay in India is a group programme which will end with student activities at the Mangalore and Manipal University. The remainder of the students' stay in India is an individual programme, and the students can travel the country and make reports according to their own plan. Students return to Volda ca. 20. November and will then work on their exam report from the stay in India and prepare for the oral examination.

If you wish to sign up for this course, you need to write a Motivation Letter in English of app. 300-400 words and complete an interview with the course leaders. The interview will also be held in English. The course is only offered in the autumn semester, and the application deadline is 1. March.
