Anne Nordengen, a BA Social Work student at VUC, did her traineeship abroad last semester and was one of many presenting her experience abroad at the International Day 2017 at VUC. Anne and fellow students at VUC, together with more than 20 international guests, represented countries and partner universities at the fair to inspire new students to do a semester abroad.

NEW TEACHER EDUCATION AT VUC ACCREDITED

NOKUT (the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education) has this autumn reviewed the plans for the new Teacher Education Programmes grades 1-7 and grades 5-10 at Volda University College, and concludes with accreditation of both programmes. “This confirms the high quality of our teacher education, and recognizes its long traditions” Rector Johann Roppen says.

Power Bank caught fire - do not use the charger

On Monday September 5., powerbanks were distributed to students at Volda University College in the Berte Kanutte-building by an external company. On Tuesday morning, it looks like one of these chargers caught fire during charging.

The iconic building was built in 1922 but underwent a total inside renovation last academic year. For the autumn of 2016, the proud building can again be used by students at the Faculty of Arts and Physical Education and the Faculty of Education.

VUC top 5 in Norway on student mobility

A survey made by The Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SiU) shows that Volda University College (VUC) is placed 5th in the country, with 23 percent of the graduates having completed a student exchange period during their studies.

FUNDS FOR INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

The International Board at Volda University College has announced a competition for funds related to internationalization at the college. More than 600.000 NOK (app. 64,000 Euro) is in the bid and the board hopes that the competition will stimulate to the development of large projects.

Sports course for Erasmus students

It has been 10 years since the extreme sport festival X2 was established by a group of students in Volda. Since 2005 the festival has evolved to become a venue for people who enjoy outdoor activities - with competitions on snow, air, mountains, hill, river and ocean.

Deep moments – international research cooperation

Department of physical education got research visitors from Czech Republic which wish to cooperate with Volda University College on the topic «deep moments» within the phenomenon of Friluftsliv. The project is interdisciplinary and explores terms like spirituality, aesthetics, transcendence, feelings and well-being in meeting with nature.

VG journalist Maria Mikkelsen and Synnøve Åsebø won the journalism award 2015. The price was handed out by Harald Stanghelle, jury owner and political editor of Aftenposten. Mikkelsen has a journalsim degree from Volda.

Over 200,000 tickets have been sold to SKI World Cup in Falun, 500 million are watching on television, and 20 journalism students are sent from Volda University College to film the event.

Joint PhD degree approved

The application for a joint PhD degree between Volda University College and Molde University College has been approved. This was decided by the national quality assurance body, NOKUT, on June 19th. The first students will be able to start in the autumn semester 2015, at the earliest.

New book: «Irony and Idyll» by Marie N. Sørbø

Jane Austen's worldwide popularity is not least due to the remaking of her novels for the visual media. Of the fifty-odd Austen related productions since 1938, forty-three of them adapt her novels to the various screens of cinema, television, computer and tablet. In the present book, Marie N. Sørbø investigates the function and targets of irony in two novels and seven films.

Exciting module: Introduction to the Contemporary Welfare State

Exchange students in the autumn semester 2013 have an excellent opportunity of getting insight into the Norwegian society and its welfare, as well as other welfare states outside Scandinavia. Norwegian-Indian pop singer Samsaya is coming to Volda for International Day, February 15th. During the annual event, she will give a mini concert on stage in Berte Kanutte. Samsaya was born in India, raised in Norway and has had broad international experience. Her new single “Breaking Bad” will be released today, February 3rd.

A group of students from Poland, from our partner university Krosno State College, have worked on it as part of their translation course and found it a challenging, but satisfying way of testing their translation skills. One of the things that made the class so interesting, explains Ryparova, was the fact that the students enrolled in the class came from so many different backgrounds.

Internationally known professor to hold lecture

During the month of October, Professor William J. Brown is a visiting lecturer at Volda University College. Professor Brown visits Volda College as a Fulbright Specialist and has given lectures at many universities around the world. This Wednesday, he will present on the topic “Entertainment Media for Social Change”.

International office sponsored Erasmus students with half the fees for the University Colleges’ games 2011. Students from three high education institutions in Møre og Romsdal county will play against each other on Sunday, 9th October, in Molde.

The new academic year 2011/2012 was opened on the 16th of August with a one minute's silence moment, in the memory of the victims of the terror attack in Oslo and Utøya, 22nd of July.

Erasmus Staff Training Week

Volda University College will for the first time invite you to an Erasmus Staff Training Week, taking place during week 38, from 19th to 23rd September 2011. This is right after the EAIE-conference in Copenhagen, and it might be a good opportunity for some of you to extend your Scandinavian program.

Goodbye Volda

Friday, 29th May, the international students went on a final trip to the bird island Runde. The time has come to say goodbye to each other and to Norwegian nature.

International students celebrate 17th May

Norwegian Constitution Day is the most important national celebration. Every 17th May children, pupils, students, parade together with representatives from various clubs, organizations and groups. Lead by fanfare, marching proudly trough lines of people energetically waving flags, thousands show their pride of being Norwegians.

Visit from Lithuania to Volda

Two guest lecturers from Klaipeda University (Lithuania) will visit Volda University College during the period 11th to 15th April. Mrs. Danute Petrauskaite and Mrs. Jurate Karosaite will give lectures while in Volda, as well as a concert with works by Ciurlionis and other Lithuanian contemporary composers.

Act SEX! project and the English guest lecturer

International and Norwegian students taking part in the course DR211 Staging Cultural Histories prepared a project entitled Act SEX! The play will be presented to the audience on Saturday, 2nd April, in Teatersalen Kaarstad. The performance is in English and is open to everybody and represent a good opportunity of experiencing cultural activities in Volda.

Fundraising campaign for Japan

International and Norwegian students joined forces and prepared an action to collect money for the victims of the 11th March earthquake and tsunami in Japan. After three days over 5300,- NOK were raised. The sum was send to Japan via Red Cross International.

The Clinton Experience and Fatty Sunroad at Rust Club

The Clinton Experience, and Fatty Sunroad will play at Rust, in Ørsta, on Saturday 19th March. Both bands have a strong connection to Volda University College, as The Clinton Experience if a band formed by employees of the university college and Fatty Sunroad is a students’ band.

Cultural student life

Bachelor students from the Faculty of Arts and Physical Education prepared a "cultural hour". The event will take place on 23rd March 2011, from 13:00 hours, in Teatersalen Kaarstad. Everybody interested is invited to join and experience the culture in Volda.

World Heritage Experiences (30 ECTS) - Geiranger World Heritage

The course has a multi- and interdisciplinary approach to the interaction between nature, culture and man, and media used to promote this. It contains both the development of practical skills, pedagogic proficiency and theoretical insights on aspects that make up this interaction. The study may be part of a Bachelor’s degree as well as being a separate course of 30 credits.

Internasjonale studenter gjør kantina klar til Internasjonal dag!

Stemningen var høy i kantina på lørdag! Mer enn 30 internasjonale studenter tok del i en fargerik workshop der målet var å dekorere kantina før Internasjonal dag onsdag 16. Resultatet er hundrevis av vimpler i alle regnbuens farger, til å bli inspirert og i godt humør av!

Staging cultural histories; something for you?

Staging cultural histories: An exploration of controversial issues in Norwegian literature from 1870 to 1914 is a new course offered by The section of Drama and Theatre at The Faculty of Art and Physical Education. The lessons will start next Wednesday, but there are still more study places left for interested students.

Volda University College’s Austral-Asian Studies students have recently returned to Brisbane, Australia after a visit to Japan. They study, travel and learn about different aspects of culture in Australia and Asia.

For the last five years, Volda University College has had a large increase in the number of international students on campus. Few left without looking back, some stayed, but most went home and convinced their colleagues how wonderful being an Erasmus in Volda is.

International students: "Sina Mwingine" - I have no other

Recorded in Kenya, shot in Volda. Four of Volda's international students have made this music video to the self-written song "Sina Mwingine" or "I have no other". Erasmus student Jekabs Stelmahers from Latvia shot and edited the video. Locations in Volda include Rotevatnet, the town center and Volda University College.

Ready for new internationals in the spring semester 2011

The application deadline for Erasmus, EEA, freemover students, for the coming semester, has been set for 15th November. Potential students are invited to send their documents before this date. The learning agreement has to be sent trough the International office of the institution the applicants come from.

University’s budget increased

Volda University College received funds for 15 new master study places, in the budget for the next academic year. At the same time, VUC got money to keep the 30 study places which were awarded in 2009. The increase in the 2011 budget is about 12 million NOK, summing up to a total of 245 million NOK for next academic year.

New rules for accommodation

For the spring semester 2011, international students at Volda University College will have to apply for rooms in the official residences directly at the Student Welfare Organization (SfS). The decision was taken between the International Office at VUC and SfS and is intended to ease the information exchange between the dorm administration and students.

Successful International Day

Wednesday, 29th September was the time for multicultural activities at Volda University College. Norwegian students had the chance to get first hand information about exchange programs. Eleven guests, from 10 countries, represented their home institution in the most important international event at VUC in the autumn semester.
