Animation is everywhere!
TV series, TV graphics, computer games, weather forecasts, features and shorts, advertising. You name it! Last year we for the first time paid special attention to animated commissioned films used by the industry as information, marketing and internal education. This we want to follow up this year.
Film screening
Once again AnimationVolda will have a special focus on industrial/corporative/commercial animation during the festival in September. These films are rarely given much attention at animation festivals.
A money award of NOK 10.000 (1250 Euro) is given by Ulstein Group and Kleven Maritime to the best film. Also money awards for second and third place.
A selection of industrial animation films from the Nordic and Baltic countries will be screened at Volda Turisthotell in the evening of Wednesday September 14th.
The winners 2011
Money prizes of total NOK 20.000,- given by the Ulstein Group and Kleven Maritime.

Second place (NOK 5.000,-)
Team generous 2010: Save the Children, Nørlum, Denmark.
Great animation. Great craftsmanship. A fine way of presenting emotions. The story is given an extra elegant twist towards the end. Achieves the wanted effect without being trapped by displacing the horrible truth.

Second place (NOK 5.000,-):
Statoil Hub 2, Toxic, Norway.
Strong visuals based directly on industry elements (geology, oil, the sea/ocean, seismic etc.) Vast and complex data are introduced in an easy understandable way. Clever balance on controversial themes that are leveled out. The beginning place the company in a global value chain, implying that their business is necessary and important. The film is seducing all way through.

The winner (NOK 10.000,-)
UnThink: Simplicity, The Study, Sweden.
The humor is catching. Easy to follow. Great Rhythm. Manages to introduce immaterial values such as creativity, competence, courage, thinking out of the box, while also showing that they know their story. Their message is engaging and it stays with you. Fantastic timing! Great production value. ‘Infomercial’ at its very best.

The seminar
The seminar ‘Industrial Animation – Why Animated Communication?’ will focus on how animation is used by leading industries like oil, medicine, shipbuilding and marine industries. The speakers will be industry leaders, industrial animation filmmakers and media academics.
The seminar is a collaboration between Volda University College, VRI Møre og Romsdal and Vestnorsk Filmsenter. It is directed towards both the film/animation filmmakers and the PR/media people in the strong industries at Sunnmøre/Western Norway (shipbuilding, offshore, furniture, fishing etc).
Topics
- Why Animated Communication (Assoc.professor Gunnar Strøm)
- Concrete industrial animation projects for Statoil and Kleven Maritime presented and discussed by both commissioning companies and filmmakers.
- How do we collaborate with a demanding industry client in making the best possible industrial animation film? (Filmmakers from leading international and Norwegian animation studios)
- Comissioned animated films by National Film Board of Canada (Producer Marcy Page)
A selection of industrial animation films from the Nordic and Baltic countries will be screened and a jury of industry and film professionals will judge and give a money prize given by the Ulstein Group and the regional marine sector.
The seminar is arranged as a 'side program' to the student run AnimationVolda festival.
