Physical - and Outdoor Education for teachers and preschool teachers.
The lessons in physical- and outdoor education at Volda University College are normally held in Norwegian language. The teachers may give a short summary in English. Often Norwegian students give translations to foreign students as an informal service.
We prefer that foreign students who want to follow the outdoor- and physical education programs at our University College arrive in Volda either in week 33 or in week 2.
Primary foreign students will follow one of the ordinary education programs. But in special occasions it might be possible to set up a special program.
The physical education in autumn is mainly held indoor or at arenas close to the University College. But the program also content a mountain hike, and some days stay at a small island.
In addition to ordinary equipment for physical education students will need: Backpack, warm clothes, raingear, rubber boots or mountain boots, sleeping bag and mattress, cap and gloves, and other personal equipment for hiking and camping.
Part of the winter activities will be on skis. In addition to ordinary equipment you will need: skis, (eventually hire) ski boots, backpack, sleeping bag, sun glasses, gloves, cap, warm clothes for winter conditions and wind-proof weather wear and other personal equipment for hiking and camping.
Several weeks of the education will be held outdoors. The program might content: canoeing, rowing, sailing, mountain hiking.
You will need: Backpack, sleeping bag, mattress, warm clothes, raingear, rubber boots /mountain boots, gloves, a warm cap and other personal equipment for hiking and camping.
A great part of the education will take place outdoor, staying in huts, tents, igloos and snow caves. The activities may include: Avalanche course, backcountry skiing, steep mountain skiing in spring, high mountain hiking in spring, glacier walking.
In the mountains the temperature might come down to 20 – 30 degrees C below.
For most of the winter /spring season we will use mountain /nordic skis, and it will be difficult to follow the education program for those who do not have reasonable skills on skis.
