Survey on knowledge, skills, views and attitudes about democracy
A survey on knowledge, attitudes and democratic preparedness in a sample of 12 secondary schools of Zomba District in Malawi is underway. One or two papers on this survey are planned to be published during 2008.
Pedagogical and social entrepreneurship
- Two pilot projects in Malawi, one in Mwaye primary school (Balaka district) and the other in Mulunguzi secondary school (Zomba district), will introduce the concept and ideas about entrepreneurship in schools as an arena for practicing democratic ways and procedures.
After the main project has been terminated, we continue with a small scale project on Pedagogical Entrepreneurship. This project is funded mainly through sources at Volda University College and is planned to last for five years. Project leaders are Foster Kholowa at Chancellor College and Bjørn Gunnar Tafjord at Volda University College. Peter Namphande (CC) and Odd Ragnar Hunnes (VUC) are project participants.
Student politics and democracy
Two students from Volda University College (VUC) spent three months at Chancellor College (CC) during February–April 2007. During their stay, they worked on their project: “Student democracy at CC and VUC”. The president of the Student Council at CC, Oscar Lweya, visited VUC and the student council there. He and the Norwegian students have finished their report where they describe, compare and contrast student democracy at the cooperating universities. Hopefully the students vill learn from each other and create lasting links between CC and VUC in the field of student politics.
